I just wanted to thank everyone that passed all of the kind suggestions on
for my trip to Jasper. Mom and I got back last night, and I really found a
lot. My grandfather's cousin had talked to Mom before we left and said we
wouldn't find anything there, he'd already looked. But I think Bud just
scratched the surface, since I found not only newspaper articles, but land
records, cemetery records, birth/death records... it's was a bonanza! And
Mom had the strangest experience Tuesday. While I was at the Huntingburg
library that afternoon, she went into all of the antique shops. At one
point, she said she felt that if she looked out the window, she'd see our
ancestress driving down the road in with a horse and buggy. When I plotted
out the land records the next day, it turned out the family had owned the
site the building was on.
If anyone is researching Bellinger, Miller (German, I realize some were
Irish!), Mauntel, Williams and Roettger, I'd be happy to correspond with
them.
