Gretchen,
There is indeed a bed and breakfast or two in Jasper. I made the trip
two summers in a row 1997 & 1998 and stayed at Power's Inn Bed and
Breakfast -- Alice and Joe Garland, 812-482-3018. Tell them Linda from
Sarasota, FL told you anout their place.
The Jasper Library is a fantastic resource for genealogy. They were open
M-Th from 9 to 8 and Fri & Sat 9 to 5 and closed Sunday. Huntingburg has
a lovely building of a library, The genealogy section was much smaller
than Jasper. I don't know what facilities they had for films (Jasper had
at least 4 readers). I have in my notes that Huntingburg library only
open till 8 Monday & Wedenesday, and till 5 other days, closed on
Sunday. There is health department and courthouse on/off the square in
Jasper -- someone else on list will have to give you the hours for
them. Good luck with your research in Jasper. The first time I was
there I read a film that listed my immigrant familiy's voyage to the US
-- it was so exciting to make that connection in the community where
they lived.

My mom and I will be going to Jasper next month to do some research and
would appreciate some suggestions.
Best place to stay? Is there any bed and breakfasts in the area?
Is there a genealogical or historical society?
I know were the court house is and I know that there are a lot of records
in a building on the square, but can anyone give me the hours they are
open?
Any other suggestions for research? Is there anything in Huntingburg,
since the family lived in that area?
