Hi, Gretchen. You and your mom are going to enjoy visiting Dubois
County. There are some great folks there. I spent a couple of days
there six months ago doing genealogy research on my Whitacre family.
A few suggestions: 1) before you go, contact the various good people
on the Internet at rootsweb and INGENWEB to help you with "look-ups".
They can save you a lot of time and have been very good in working with
me.
2) Make your first stop at the Courthouse. In the basement you will
find Rosemary Stewart in the Records Library. She is one of the best.
She is quick, polite, and very well informed about genealogy matters
and records. "Rosie" is also the Secretary of the Dubois County
Genealogical Society. Their address is: DCGS, P. O. Box 84, Ferdinand,
IN 47532-0084.
3) The Jasper Public Library is another good place to spend a lot of
time. The genealogy room is private and an easy place to work. Be
sure to take several rolls of dimes. You will need them for the copy
machines.
I enjoyed my visit to Dubois County. Hope you enjoy your stay there.
Happy hunting. Buddy Whiteaker, an Arkansas Traveler.
