Hi Sue,
What was the name of your Great grandfather you located?
lonnie
>
Lonnie, in Boone Twp taken June 12, 1900 you will find
Annie Brown as head
with children Verda & Jethro M. In the dwellings next to her are Brittains &
Schanrrs.
Near the bottom of page is Anna Brown's son Frank with his wife Anna Margaret
Schnarr Brown and their first two children, Cecil M & Virgil Franklin. Frank
& Anna went on to have a total of eleven children, the last born in 1921
Anna (Annie) Browns maiden name was Diannah Williams. She was the 2nd wife
of my Great Grandfather, Martin Vanburen Brown, born 1836, Dubois Co., IN.
He was the son of David G. Brown & Nancy Brittain. The Brittain family came
to Dubois Co. early, probably around 1820 or so from North Carolina. There
are many descendants still in the Dubois Co. & surrounding counties (Daviess,
Orange, etc). No doubt, that is why Diannah Williams Brown was living by a
Brittain. David G. Brown is listed as being at Ft McDonald in 1813 as a
member of the US Army Mounted Rangers. My Great Grandfather, Martin Vanburen
Brown died suddenly in 1884, leaving a widow & eight children in the
household. The two oldest were from Martin's first marriage to Menhalet
Powers, dau of Major Thomas Powers, one of Dubois Counties early pioneers.
Martin & Menhalet had four sons & I have not been able to accretion what
happened to three of them. The two oldest may have died in childhood, Martin
& Thomas B. Clarence P. was born in 1867 , was still in the household at
time of martin's death in 1884, but was gone by 1900 census. The youngest,
David R., born 1869, died in 1892 & is buried at Shiloh churchyard where his
father & mother are buried.
In the household next to Diannah Williams Brown is the family of Schnarrs.
Unable to determine the first name but no doubt they are connected to Frank
Brown's wife family.
Sorry to give you so much history for such a simple question that you raised
& I see it was meant for Sue, not me. Oh well!
