I was wondering if anyone had a history (especially dates) as to when the
first burial (and who) was in St. Joseph, and when Fairview opened up? I
know St. Joe was strickly for Catholics at that time, and the Protestants
were buried in the old city cem by the Great Wall Restaurant. When
Fairview open up, was one side strickly for Protestants and another for
Catholics, or were they all mixed? At the turn of the century, the two
were not buried together. The family story in the Keusch family is that
Xavier Keusch bought a very large plot that contained several lots so that
he and his wife (who was Lutheran) would be buried together, and they were.
They died 1909-1910. Paul Mehringer's first wife, Barbara Goeppner, died
in Mar of 1840 and is supposedly buried at St. Joe. Thanks for any
enlightenment. Helen Zuber Keusch
