I recall this being asked a few weeks ago and didn't save the answer
1. About what year were the streets in Evansville renamed? On some of the early census
I see streets that I don't recognize.
2. Also I have a page from the Evansville German paper-- a death notice on Margaretha
Spindler Fischer-- it states her house was on the corner of Franklin the 9th Avenue,
Independence. This would be in the Lasmaco area and I don't know if 9th is east of
west of the Pigeon Bridge on Franklin. But was that area originally called
Independence?
3. I am trying to link Elizabeth Mehringer who married Andreas/Andrew Spindler (most
likely in Bavaria) and came into IN abt 1841. Andrew declared in 1841 and took the
final oath in 1846 in Vanderburgh. I would pay the family jewels (except I don't
have any) to find out Elizabeth's siblings. I think she had two brothers-- Casper
and Andreas Mehringer-- who came into Dubois CO., IN, a bit before 1840. All the
Mehringers seem to spring from those two brothers.
Thanks for any help. Helen Zuber Keusch
