A very kind lister checked the 1880 mortality census and found
indeed that my direct ancestor, Indiana ELLIS MINOR, lost her
son AND her son-in-law within the space of a few months.
Charles H. MINOR, aged 24, died March 1880. I do not have
a marriage record for him anywhere -- he could have married
in Crawford, Dubois, or Pike counties.
Then there is the conundrum of his sister, Elizabeth J. MINOR
COX. She *had* been married to John W. COX -- married in
Crawford County because that was where the Minors were living
at the time -- mid 1870's ... but he died in Pike County a month
after contracting typhoid fever in Dubois County (or so the
mortality schedule says).
A while back I thought Elizabeth had had just the two children
and that I'd lost her. Then a cousin found her here, in
Texas, in 1900. However, she'd had four more children,
surnamed COX. My question is: did she remarry another COX?
Did she have the four out-of-wedlock, which seeems unlikely
given that this branch of the family was not prone to do
such a thing (unlike many other branches, I have plenty
of other direct ancestors who were rather scurrilous!).
I *did* find an Elizabeth MINER m. a William COOK in Pike
County after 1880... but wouldn't she have used her married
name? Mrs. Elizabeth COX? In Arkansas, when a divorcee or
widow remarried the name on the license was their married
name. If she *did* marry a Mr. Cook, then the four children
by him came to be known as COX after his death, or else
there's a typo on the marriage record and she married a COX.
So... any marriages out there for
Charles H. MINOR between 1870 and 1880, much more likely
towards 1880, in Crawford-Dubois-Pike? and
Elizabeth J. MINOR COX after 1880 before 1886 in same?
and of course cemetery records for
JOHN W. COX d. August 1879 aged 26
CHARLES H. MINOR d. March 1880 aged 24
(I noticed the Dubois cemeteries are in a copyrighted
book -- could anyone do a look up? Indiana ELLIS
MINOR may also be buried near her son. She is not
buried in Blunk Cemetery in Dubois County with her
husband Aaron.)
Thank you!!!!!

MAY!
