Hi, I have a Hochgesang-Mathias/Matheis/Mathies connection that I have been hitting a
brick wall on. I have an Elizabeth Hochgesang (b. 1832 in Germany-- parents are John
Joseph Hochgesang and Catherine/Barbara Molitor). Elizabeth married Adam Mathias after
1850 and they have two known children-- Anton (b. 1858; bapt. Celestine) and M. Magdalen
(b. 1864; bapt St. Joseph). I cannot find them anywhere in 1860 or 1870 or the rest of
the census. I know the Mathias name can be spelled many ways as can Hochgesang. Adam
is listed in the immigration book along with Anthony and Frank. So I am presuming the
three are brothers. Anthony and Frank are neighbors in the later censuses. But Adam
and Elizabeth seem to have fallen off the face of the earth, along with their children.
Can anyone help me? I do have lots of other Hochgesang info I'd be happy to
share-- that is a direct line of my hubby's.
