Below is an e-mail which I posted a couple of days ago. It indicates who my
GREEN(E), HURST and MORGAN ancestors were who lived in Dubois and Pike
counties, Indiana. I really would like to learn the maiden name of my 4th
great-grandmother, Sarah "Sary" Morgan. Also, I would like to have positive
proof that Mary "Polly" Green(e) was the wife of my 3ggf Andrew Cottrel "A.
C." Morgan. If she live until 1897, is there a death record for her in the
Dubois County Health Department which shows her parents and husband? Are
there church records showing her marriage to Andrew C. Morgan?
Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks so much for writing, Ella!
I looked at the MORGAN names and found my third great-grandparents, A. C.
Morgan, 1805-1863? and Mary (Green(e)) Morgan, 1813-1897. I wonder if there
is a death record for Mary indicating her parents and her husband's name?
Also, I found my second great-grandfather, George Morgan, 1835-1882 (I found
a newspaper article in Jasper stating that he slid off a hay mow on to an
upraised pitch fork, and died a few days later, leaving six orphaned
children!), and Maria (Mariah Lee) Morgan, 1840-1878.
In the 1880 U. S. Census for Madison, Dubois, Indiana Sarah Anderson, 42, was
listed as head of household, apparently a widow, with three daughters
Angeline, Ida and Ami and with "uncle" Sephes Morgan, 67, born in Indiana
with father and mother born in Virginia. I believe that Sephes was the
brother of A. C. Morgan. In the 1850 census of Bainbridge Township Sarah
Morgan (widow of John, I believe, 68, born Virginia was living with sons?
James, 40, Charles, 39, and John J., 37, all born in Tennessee. In the 1860
census, there was a Zef Morgan, age 47, born in Indiana living with Adrew
Morgan, 55, born in Tennessee and Polley Morgan, 47, born in Kentucky, in
Dwelling Number 459 in Bainbridge Township, Dubois County. (Adjoining them
was Charles Morgan, age 40?, born in Indiana, living in Dwelling Number 458.)
In Indiana Source Book, Volume Three, edited by Willard Heiss, Indiana
Historical Society, 1982, pages 271 "Relief Laws - No county mentioned" and
272: "William Hurst, guardian of Andrew, Benjamin, James, Charles, John
Josephus, & Evan Newton Morgan, heirs of John Morgan, authorized to purchase
land. William Hurst indicated that he, as guardian for the named heirs, had
a considerable sum of money which he desired to invest in land . I believe
that he was given authority to buy land by the legislature. I would like to
know what land was purchased and whether the heirs ever received portions of
the land. At the Indiana Historical Society in Indianapolis, I examined the
records of the first session of the Indiana Legislature in 1816. Andrew's
name was shown as Andrew Cottrel. Is there a link with a COTTREL(L) family?
Somebody has told me that Ann Morgan, daughter of Ezekiel Morgan and
Elizabeth Hurst, was the wife of the above-named William Hurst, and was the
sister of the deceased, John Morgan. She would have been the aunt of the
boys. I have found information showing Ezekiel/Zekial and/or Elizabeth Hurst
Morgan were in Frederick County, Shenandoah County, Montgomery County, and
Wythe County, Virginia in the time period from about 1760 to1793. I can't
find documentary proof that John Morgan is the son of Ezekiel and Elizabeth
Hurst Morgan. If John Josephus Morgan was born in Indiana rather than
Tennessee, I could add his parents, John Morgan and Sarah "Sary" ____ Morgan
to my ancestor list as a member of the Society of Indiana Pioneers.
I hope that some day somebody will help me or I will come upon documentation
providing answers to my questions.
Thank you very much, Ella, for sharing family information with me. Thanks,
also, to Casey Williams for taking the picture of the mentioned memorial
stone.
