Hi Peter and Melanie,
I was at the OIOC, British Library, London this afternoon and looked for the
Baptism details of Charles Wilson. The Film Number you gave was not
recognised but I suspected that any Ecclesiastical Records for that era
would be of the Bengal Presidency. The Preservation Department of the BL
have produced a new microfilm for greater clarity (though I must say that
after 240 years, one can hardly expect the ink not to have faded). The
original microfilm N/1/1-2 which had a black background with the writing in
white has been changed to N/1/1-3 with the background in white and the
writing in black...very faint but with perseverance one could discern what
was written...certainly better than the old microfilm!
This is what I found on Bengal Baptism Ref: N/1/2/113.
The header was "A true and exact copy of the Registration of Marriages,
Christenings and Burials, Fort William in the year 1765."
Under the sub-heading: "Christenings"
"15 Jan 1765, Charles Wilson, s/o James Wilson and his wife."
Extract from the Bengal Ecclesiastical Returns 1755-1784 Part 1.
Date Filmed: 2002.
