For years I have been trying to find the baptism record for my great-grandfather, James
William Ballantine or Ballantyne (certain records spell it as "ine" and others
"yne" at the end. He was born, (according to his age when marrying) in 1862
(don't know where though). His two brothers and a sister were all born in England
(Sunderland, Durham) according to the 1871 Census. The strange thing is, he is not
included on the census for some reason. It could be that the enumerator left his name off
accidentally, as his father's name is also James William. The family must have moved
shortly after 1871 to Myanmar as the two brothers married in 1876 and 1879 respectively in
Rangoon, as did my g/gf in 1890 and all at the same church, i.e. Holy Trinity Church. My
g/gf was firstly Asst Superintendent of Telegraphs and later Superintendent. My question
is, can anyone tell me where would I find his employment records, as I would like to
confirm where he was born and the correct spelling of his surname. Both his children were
recorded as "Ballantyne" on their baptism records.
Any help if much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
