Further to my email below, I’ve found the marriage record on findmypast. This indicates
that there’s been a transcription error on familysearch.
James Berry was a bachelor (aged 30) and Julie was a widow aged 35 (no surname given - but
father was Basant Singh).
It is interesting that she only signs herself as Julie.
‘According to my family history, my Greatgrandmother, Elizabeth Singh,
married my great Grandfather, Thomas Moore, in 1889. In the record, she was
a widow at 18.’
I was interested to read that your ggm was a Singh.
Some years ago, my late maternal aunt told me that my gf’s cousin Julie Singh was one of
the first women doctors in India and that she trained at Edinburgh. This I’ve not been
able to verify and until recently I’ve been unable to find any record of her.
FamilySearch indicates that a Julie Singh (b 1883, father Basant Singh) married James
Berry (b 1878, father JC Berry), a widower, on 15/4/1913 in Cawnpore.
