I have a book similar to Ann's - similar in that at the end it has an
headed "Awards" and lists European and Indian names under their British
and Indian Army Regiments.
The book is called "The Tiger Kills" (India's Fight in the Middle East and
North Africa), published with the authority of the Government of India
by the Director of Public Relations, India Command, in 1944.
There are many illustrations and maps with some photos of people named,
General Sir Claude Auchinleck
Havildar Mohammad Yusuf (Pathan driver)
Subedar Lalbahadur Thapa,V.C.
Gen. Von Arnim
H.M. The King-Emperor
Can do look-ups of names, preferably with their Regiments also.

Subject: [INDIA] The First Punjab Regiment
My grandfather served with the 3/1 (3rd Battalion Ist Punjab Regiment) in
War II and I bought a book for my Dad entitled:
The First Punjabis - History of the First Punjab Regiment
1956 by Major Mohammed Ibrahim Qureshi.
I bought it because it has accounts of battles and names my grandfather.
I am going to get rid of it (eventually) now that my Dad is no longer with
but before I do, if you think that your ancestors were in any of the
of the 1st Regiment and you want me to look anything up, then I will try
There is an index of names at the back for notable persons (mainly those
were awarded honours or medals) and lots of information about particular
Family committments mean that I may not be able to acknowledge emails
immediately, but if you contact me off list, I will certainly have a look
any information that you might want, so long as it is not too vague. And
are very patient!
If your ancestor did not get a medal or an honour, but you know what
Theatre of War they were involved with, I may be able to give you some
Lots of Indian names as well as Europeans, could you please put "The First
Punjab Regiment - " in the subject, followed by your ancestor's name.
