Great article but one query - can anybody tell me who Henry STEAD was,
please? I have a lot of ancestors who changed the surname spelling and
would love to know if he was one that I have missed!

Ann Chidley (24th August) reminded us of the interest in the names
those who were in the old Indian Army in which her grandfather
served in the 1st Punjab Regiment during WW2.
Among photos of the 8th Punjab Regiment?s 2nd
battalion on operations in Waziristanin 1936-37 in Fibiwiki there are
good images of five officers of the battalion at:
They are identified as Henry Stead, Tom Edwards, Jonah, Reggie Gore and
John Woodhouse ? three of the five smoking pipes!
