I've noticed that some users of this list come up with all sorts of terrific answers
for people who are "stuck" with their family connections, so I wonder if anyone
can offer any words of wisdom re the below:
Richard Bean (My 3xGrt Grandfather)
Born Yorkshire about 1788 (unfortunately there were a lot of Beans in Yorkshire)
Joined HM 53rd Regiment of Foot in Carlisle in 1804 and arrived in India with his regiment
on the "Phoenix" (at Fort William Calcutta) on 6th Aug 1805
Widowed by his first wife (name not known) but daughter Nancy Bean married John Ludlam
Married Hannah Robinson (possibly a cousin) 15.4.1811 in Cawnpore (now Kanpur, Uttar
Children (male line were largely military): Thomas, Richard, George John, & Mary.
Died 25.5.1850 in Meerut and buried at St Johns Church, Meerut.
When he died he was "Bazaar Sergeant" Honourable East India Company at Meerut.
The next four generations, including my father, were born and lived in India until
Independence (Agra, Meerut, Lucknow, Cawnpore, Shimla & Lahore)
I have recently returned from India visiting most of the above where I failed to find his
grave or any Municipality/Church records that might help me find his date of birth.
My question is how can I find his date of birth? Without that I'm stuck. How does
one find military records for that period? Would these show date of birth? I would be
really grateful to hear from anyone that has any suggestions?
