A few years ago I attempted without any success whatsoever to get some help from the List
identifying an Indian bank in the days immediately before the Second World War, known as
the 'Indo Bank’ which my father worked for after resigning his army commission in
India. I am trying again in the hope that some new listers may be able to help me.
Reference to London telephone directories provide no clues. From the little I have been
able to unearth from my grandmother’s Madras diaries for the period (1938-39), the
management was at least partially British and there was a link to Berkeley Street, W 1.
The old Chartered Bank, to-day’s Standard Chartered, is my best guess, because the name
India used to appear in its full title together with Australia and China.
Can anyone help me? I am running out of time to come up with a solution
