Thank you so much for your email. Yes, I have Morris and Cozens great book
in PDF format but you have reminded me to look for a second-hand printed
copy again! I love the photograph of the house in Well Close Square. I know
that (according to Guillery) it is from a little after Bowrey's time but it
still has a resonance.
It will be a while yet before my book is finished but I appreciate your
offer to mention it in your newsletter in the future.
I have been trying to find a document within Bowrey's papers at the LMA
that really does not belong and your Newsletter subscribers may be
interested in. Unfortunately, I have almost 10,000 images of documents by
or relating to him and, is so often the case, I cannot find what I am
looking for at the moment. I am gradually building a detailed catalogue of
his papers and will let you know about it when I find it.
Thank you again for contacting me.

As the editor of the East London History Society Newsletter, I was
interested to note that you are writing a biography of Thomas Bowrey of
Wapping. No doubt you are familiar with the books on East London merchants
and mariners written by Derek Morris and published by the Society. One in
particular, WAPPING, 1600-1800 A SOCIAL HISTORY OF AN EARLY-MODERN LONDON
MARITIME SUBURB by DEREK MORRIS and KEN COZENS has references to Bowrey.
The book is available in PDF format, details from the East London History
