Sandy...the more I find out, the less i know...LOL
Grant, sister Olive, and brother Benjamin are still living with mother,
Salllie in the 1900 and 1910 Miami Co, Indiana census records. All are
listed as single in both 1900 and 1910! This knocks out my theory that
Grant had a first wife; seems unlikely that he is father of Agnes, since she
was born in abt 1902. So now, it seems likely that Maggie was his first
marriage.
The 1920 Delaware Co census shows Grant as age 53 and Maggie as 35. Don't
hold a gun to my head as the ages are hard to read. But if Agnes was 18 and
dau of Maggie...Maggie would have been young - age 17 when had Agnes. Seems
strange though that Agnes is not listed as Agnes Craig, or as step dau of
Grant.
The 1920 census also shows Grant's siblings, Benjamin and Olive "in same
household" (a few doors from Grant and Maggie) and both still single.
Virginia
Virginia,
Yes this Agnes could be Gertrude's mother. What I am trying to figure out
is this:
Grant Carmichael married Maggie Craig on November 2, 1918 in Delaware Co.,
Indiana. So this Agnes belongs to one of them by a previous marriage. I
know nothing about Maggie Craig except that she was born November 2, 1918
in
Indiana (information from marriage license to Grant Carmichael).
Grant is the son of John H. Carmichael and Sallie Duckett. Grant was born
in Grant Co., Indiana and later lived in Miami County with his mother and
two younger sibilings.
After the death of his mother sometime after 1910, he and his two younger
siblings moved to Delaware Co., Indiana. Grant Carmichael died in
Delaware
Co., Indiana on
August 20, 1943 and is buried in Beech Grove Cemetery.
Thanks for the lead, Virginia. I will see what I can find out about
Agnes.
