Five Enveloped in Boiling Tar
Two Muncie Children will die from distressing accident
One Encased in Mass- Muncie Indiana May 6, Two children were fatally and
three others seriously injured late yesterday when they were burned by
the upsetting of a kettle of boiling tar. Geneva Venable, 6 was
enveloped in the boiling liquid and when her mother attracted by the
screams of the children placed her in a tub of cold water, she was
encased in a hard cake of tar, physicians say she will die.Bert McCarty,
8 year old son of Charles McCarty and his wife was so severely burned
about the face and body that it is believed he will die.The other
children burned are: Herman Venable, 9 brother of Geneva and son of John
Venable and his wife, and Cyrus 4, and Mary 6, children of Cyrus Guate
and his wife. They will recover. The tar was being used to repair a roof
on a factory building and was upset by one of the children.
