Mark,
Thank you! This has been the subject of some discussion lately since attending one of
your workshops. We personally even noticed that these sort of bad repairs have been done
on stones that represent well-known pioneers, like Minus Turner's family stones.
People meant well but actually did more harm than good and it increases the cost of the
job. We were given permission as family to mend these stones but the job is too
monumental for us now and no one else will ever bother.
I encourage anyone to attend Mark's workshop(s) but wear lots of bug spray. ;0)

Subject: [INDELAWA-L] Granville cemetery,Niles township,Delaware county
I just visited Granville cemetery in Niles township. Its a mess. Its being mowed but the
stones are in very poor shape. The real sad thing is previous repairs using sand mix are
not holding, stones are not set in bases properly, and the silicone caulk(it won't
hold) used to join the stones together is also letting go...all the labor that someone has
done is absolutely wasted. And if the trusteee paid for the repairs then the money was
also wasted. I estimate 95% of the 50 or so repaired stones are apart again. So now not
only do you have to repair the stone but you have to undo the mess that is left behind on
the stone.
I am saying this only to prove that education of stone restoration is imperative before
anyone attempts to make repairs on stones.
Please get to a restoration workshop before you do something that is irreversible or
detrimental to the stone.

ps- All the materials that were used to do repairs were not compatible for stone
restoration....therefore the repairs dont hold...WHY DO IT THE WRONG WAY?
