John,
WOW!! I am blown away by the information you sent me. It will really help trying to
track down more info on JULIA.
Here is my connection: LILLIE HIPES is my g-grandmother. She was born March 24, 1861 and
died May 8, 1925. I am not sure where she is buried. SHe married JOSEPH LEE HAMM in 1885
in Indiana (probably Madison or Delaware Co.) They had three children: MADONNA FAY HAMM
b. Nov. 24, 1886 d. April 1974 (my grandmother), LUCILLE HAMM and JOSEPH HAMM. JOE HAMM
had a farm in Madison COunty, IN, but I can't remember exactly where it was.
Is your grandmother still living? It sort of sounded like it from your email and if so,
is she well enough to look at some pictures. I have a bundle of pictures which were in my
grandmother's possession. I have shown them to my Dad, but he can't remember who
the people are. I am sure that there are probably pictures of JULIA and LILLIE among
others, but I need help identifying them.
I would love to have any information you may have about this family since my Dad is sort
of vague on it. Let me know if you want the whole run down on MADONNA's marriage and
child, etc.
Thanks again for your email.

Hi Fran,
I have a little info. on Julia and her family. She married Valentine T. Lambert on
November 25, 1869 in Delaware County, Ind. Together they had Karl E. Lambert b. 1872 and
William Valentine Lambert b. 1875 in Salem Township, Delaware Co., Ind. Valentine was born
May 14, 1836 in Hamilton County, Ohio and grew up in Ohio Co. and Switzerland Co., Ind. He
was the son of Noah and Elizabeth Neeley Lambert. After Noah was killed in 1852 the
family, except for the two oldest sons, moved to Muscatine Co., Iowa. Valentine married
his first wife Margaret in Iowa and I am told had two daughters but I have not yet found
record of them. After Margaret died about 1865, Valentine moved to Salem Township,
Delaware Co., Ind. where his brother John N. Lambert (my 3G-Grandfather) had lived on his
farm south of Daleville since 1852. Here Valentine married Julia A. Hipes, widow of Samuel
Hipes. Valentine died sometime between 1875 and 1880 as Julia is listed in the 1880 census
as widowed. The!
1!
870
census shows V.T. and Julia A. Lambert with Lydia and James with out showing their last
name as Hipes. In 1880, they are shown as Lillie Hipes and James H. Hipes. Our family
records have them as Lydia Ellen Hipes b. 1860 and James Emmett Hipes b. 1863.
I do not know what happened to Lydia and James and very little about Karl and William.
William was married and had two sons when he died in Anderson, Madison Co., Ind. and Karl
died March 25, 1941 and is buried in Saunders Cemetery east of Daleville. Julia died at
the age of 91 on May 1, 1933 and is buried in Saunders Cemetery also. Somewhere around
here I have an old newspaper article about the history of Daleville that talks about her.
She was well-known and well-liked around Daleville and everyone called her "Aunt
Julia". My grandmother remembers her. My grandmothers name is Julia also and when she
married my grandfather, John Lambert and moved to Daleville in 1930 a lady asked her her
name and she told her and the lady looked at her funny and said "Well, you are not
THE Julia Lambert."
I hope this little bit may help you some. I have more info. on the Lamberts if you are
interested just let me know. And if you have any info. that you would considering sharing
I would be very interested in seeing it and I am looking forward to hearing back from you.
Thanks and good luck.
