Hello all,
I did a bit of research on John S. Smith.
For those who don't know, his cemetery marker was found in Muncie in someone's
front yard.
It had been taken from the Hinton Cemetery in Gaston.
John S. Smith born Abt. 1854 in Indiana, was the son of John and Phoebe Smith. He had 2
sisters, Sarah E. and Dora J. Smith.
John S. Smith married Matilda A. Sailors daughter of John and Mary Jane Sailors on
December 1, 1873 in Delaware County.
John S. and Matilda Smith had the following children
Ida Smith born about 1876
Carl Smith born about 1879
Cora Smith born Feb. 1880
John S. Smith died June 22, 1882 in Hamilton township, the attending physician was R.H.
Barns according to the online cemetery database, he was interred in Hinton cemetery in
Washington Township.
Matilda A. Sailors Smith married Cornelius Bisner (Bizner) on December 2, 1883 in Delaware
County.
I found Cornelius and Matilda Bisner living in Warren County, Washington Township, on the
1900 census. Ward 1 Page 1.
Carl Smith the son of John S. and Matilda Smith was listed with his wife Bessie B. Smith
in the same household as his stepfather and mother.
I found the family on the following census records.

This was all I found so far tonight, if anyone has any more information on this family let
me know. I am sending this on to the newspaper reporter who is following this story.
