Rosannah Smith was born in 1777 in Vermont. She may have been a Bruster, Foster, or
Deming. (Her parents have not been found.)
She married Nathan Smith and they came to Morgan County, OH, in "1812".
Nathan died in Morgan County, OH, in 1827.
One of Rosannah's daughters, Lucy Smith, married James Lowry in December 1826 in
Morgan County, OH. Rosannah & her minor children and James Lowry's family were
found on the 1830 Morgan County, OH, census. Apparently the young couple & their two
small children lived nearby to assist Rosannah with her farm.
Rosannah sold the Morgan County farm in October 1838. On January 5, 1839, she purchased 55
acres near the Mt. Tabor M. E. Church in Liberty Township, Delaware County, IN, from Jacob
and Lois Payton. So maybe Rosannah & her minor children left for Delaware County, IN,
after the farm was sold in Ohio. But what happened to James Lowry's family? He was no
longer in Morgan County in 1840. I have also been told that he was not in Delaware
County. (Maybe he we did not look in the right place!)
(Today's question) What if the family of James Lowry were living with Rosannah? How
would I go about finding the 1840 Delaware County census to see how many males and females
were living with Rosannah at that time, to see how many individuals lived in that
household at that time.
By 1850, the Smith children were all married and "Rosanna" was living with her
daughter's family in Liberty Township - namely Martin and Nancy (Smith) Ribble.
You are a great bunch to work with & I am sure someone will be able to tell me where
to find the 1840 Delaware County census information.
