Ed;
Maybe another Floridian can offer some help.
I checked on HeritageQuest's census index and found there was a five-year
old George W. living with head of household Adeline E. Clevenger in 1860
census. That was in Delaware County IN, Monroe Twp., Richwoods P.O. note: this
is not guaranteed to be the right George W. because there were a total of 61
heads of household in the state of Indiana in the HQ 1860 census index. I
did not check all of them.
Others in the household at that time were William (b.OH), Ethan, Charles,
Nelson, Milton and Elizabeth (with George W. all others born IN).
Adeline may have been widowed at that time. George W. was the youngest of
the children. Adeline was 43 years old and born in NC.
I checked the next census, 1870, and Adeline was still in Delaware County
IN, Monroe Twp., Burlington PO. George W. was 14 years old and there were
others in the household, but still no indication of a husband for Adeline. The
family next door was named Trowbridge.
I think you may have success in learning George W's father if someone will
check the 1850 census (which is not available on HQ) for a family with wife
named Adeline and children with same names as listed above in 1860.
Best wishes,
