My dad always said the same, however, he always said that the gangsters
thought of Muncie as a kind of "Little Chicago" during the 30's too, and
hid
out there, so they didn't want to rob the place that was so nice to hide
them.
Between that and the rail roads, Muncie must of have been safer than we
thought!
