I lived in Muncie (Shedtown) in the 1930's and I don't recall any bank
robberies. Gerald Chapman was one of the "bad guys" of that era. Anyone
ever heard of him? By the way, theNRA and the depression was in full bloom.
My mother had a grocery store at Hoyt and 15th. The World's Fair,
diagonally across the street from our grocery store was a favorite watering
hole. One of our neighbor families, the Eppards, made "ball books" for
income. Remember "ball books"? They were gambling games. I remember "Guess
What's" Toueys swimming pool, the Grande Theater and the Saturday Western
serials. We sang "Happy Days are here again" and had a little fun on stage
before the movie started. I left there in 1938, but a big part of my heart
still lies in good old "Shedtown". Some of the local kids would "watch your
car" for .25 cents for the patrons of the World's Fair. They were happy
days. I went to Lincoln Grade School where Mr Bussey was my favorite
teacher. Then on to Wilson Jr. High where Mrs. Miller taught me English and
we had printing and electricity. Oh, I remember still.- Andy Gilland -
