I am still trying to find a name for the female "10-15" who was in the household
of Rosannah Smith in 1840.
Rosannah's husband, Nathan Smith was not well, so he wrote his Morgan County, OH, will
in 1824, and died in 1827 in Morgan County, OH. Their youngest son, Stephen A. Smith (born
about 1823) was the youngest child listed on Nathan's 1824 will. But maybe Stephen had
a little sister born after the will was written.(Morgan County, OH, has NO one that will
do searches at the Morgan County courthouse.)
I do know that an interview of Rosannah's daughter, Nancy (Smith) Ribble, in 1911, by
the Muncie News states that there were 10 girls and five boys. And I do continue to not
have a name for the "10th daughter", so she could very well be the female
"10-15" on the 1840 census (born 1825-28).
But where would we look for clues to prove it?
When I pointed out that on Nathan's will there was a "Mary Smith", further
study found her married to Andrew Shafer in Delaware County in 1842, and dying there in
1844.
At least with that one, we had the name "Mary". With "#10" we have
nothing!
(Rosannah is buried at the Mt. Tabor Cemetery with her daughter, Lucy (Smith) Lowry,
& two of Lucy's "Lowry" children.
Anyone with any suggestions?
