I finally found a photo of the POOR plaque just north of Eaton. I
tried to attach it here but it bounced back and said it exceeded the
limit for posting, so if anybody wants to see it, email me. I've
submitted a copy to gina for posting to the Delaware County site. The
plaque says In Memory of 'The Poor School House' founded on this
site 1858. It's very nice on large stone. Surely whatever group put
up the plaque and took down the one room schoolhouse took a photo?
Does ANYONE know where info on the Poor School House just north of
Eaton exists? Teachers? A photo? When it was taken down? The only
thing I know connected to this school is a story about William Poor,
age 18 who threw live firecrackers into the school during the
spelling bee and got in trouble with the law. The land for the school
was donated by Thomas C. Poor and his wife Martha Haynes Poor. It sat
at the corner of their property, where two roads intersected. Can
anyone find a reference to the 'Poor School House' anywhere?
