I live in Hagerstown and would be willing to check this out for you here.
The newpapers, if the weeklys go back that far, may be at the Nettle
Creek Museum instead of the library. I know people both places.
Otherwise, another place would be the Paladium Item in Richmond, the
county seat.

Forwarding from Wayne Co. list.

"I'd like to clarify some things about the photo and article I have
about the
oldest resident in 1887, since several of you inquired. Not only
was she
the oldest resident of Wayne Co., but the oldest resident then of
the state of
Indiana. She was Mrs. Magdaline (Shafer) Boggs, born in Lancaster
Co. PA
in 1783.
My relatives in Wayne Co. IN also came from Lancaster Co. PA too.
I'm
trying to get the library of Hagerstown to look into their old
newspaper
collections for obits. I provided them with specific dates, but
have yet to hear back
from them. If they cooperate, I'll send them a copy of what I
have, and any
interested parties can get a copy from them, if interested.
Mrs. Boggs died in 1889 per a posting, which would have been just a
few days
shy of her 106th birthday.
Richard"
