Hi Christine,
Thanks so much for the additions to Granville Cemetery and thanks for taking
the time to write! I'll be "fixing" the pages soon.
Cheers,
Virginia
According to a record I have from the Ball State Archives and Special
Collections which I copied several years ago,
the five unkowns next to the Hance tombstones are the following:
Augustus B. Hance, consort of Rebecca Hance , died Oct. 19, 1854, in his
20th year.
In Memory of Sarah Hance, wife of Elder Willis Hance, died April 20, 1857
(My records show her born August 20,
1793)
Willis, son of A.B. and R. Hance, died Nov. 17, 1854, in his 4th month
In Memory of Elder Willis Hance "A Member of the Baptist church 38 years he
stood upon the walls of Zion 30 and five" Died August 9, 1857
Ambrose D. Hance, died August 26, 1889, Age 63 years, 2 months, 21 days;
Mary consort of A.D. Hance, died
January 19, 1878, Age 47 years, 4 months, 23 days.
The material prefacing this cemetery record says that it was done by Albert
Tingley Morris before the cemetery was badly damaged by vandals. When I
visited the cemetery and took pictures, the Hance stones were on the ground
or slightly askew. This has been probably 20 years ago now, if I remember
correctly. It is not an easy cemetery to get to. The record I copied these
from gave directions.
The Hances are part of my husband's family in Delaware County. Ambrose D.
Hance and his wife Mary Jane Abbott were the parents of Cynthia Letetia
Hance, who married Charles A. Smith, son of Benj. F. Smith and
Emily Peterson.
Ambrose and Augustus were sons of "Elder" Willis D. Hance and Sarah
Northcutt or Counts. Their other children were Benjamin, Nancy, Joseph and
Mary. Augustus's wife was Rebecca Brammer.
Christine
