Mary Lu: Could your Samuel's father be JAMES DUNGAN, brother to JOSEPH R.,
ISAAC AND BENJAMIN?
I have little information on JAMES, but my notes are as follows:
Several of JOSEPH R. DUNGAN's brothers also came from Butler Co., Ohio to
Union and Fayette Counties, Indiana, as early as 1813; they were BENJAMIN,
ISAAC and JAMES. Other history articles state this also.
JOSEPH R. DUNGAN, b. 1-30-1793, m: MARTHA ANDERSON (they are mine).. They
are buried in Dunlapsville Cemetery, Union Co., Indiana.
ISAAC DUNGAN, b. 1777, m: Mary (unknown). They are buried in Brownsville
Christian Union Cemetery, Union County, Indiana.
BENJAMIN DUNGAN, b. 10-15-1782, m: Margaret Mitchell. I don't know their
burial place.
JAMES DUNGAN was born 6-1-1769 and supposedly lived in Hamilton Co., OH. My
notes say he married Sarah Heirs, but I'm not sure about that.

From the History of Fayette County - Waterloo Township, Indiana:
"In 1814 Benjamin Dungan and family settled in the township and entered

They were natives of Virginia. . ."

From Fayette County, Indiana Biographies:
"B.F. Dungan . . . . . . Benjamin Dungan, grandfather of our subject, was a
native of Virginia. He was married to Margaret Mitchell, and in 1814
removed with his family to Waterloo Township, where he entered 160 acres of
land in Section 10. . . .After a residence here of many years, he and his
wife removed to Delaware County, Ind., where they died. ISAAC, brother of
Benjamin, came to the township some years after, receiving from his brother
ten acres of land as an inducement to settle here. . ."
