Rosanna Lowry was the sister of my mother's grandfather, Thomas Nathan Lowry. (They
were living with their father, James Lowery, in Delaware County, in 1850).
Rosanna married Samuel H. Dungan on July 31, 1853, in Delaware County, IN.
(She died in Marion County, IA.)
Because I an a Lowry descendant, I have informatioin on Rosanna Lowry.
But I would also like to add to my records, the parents of Samuel Dungan. (Or was he some
orphan?!?)
The first Dungan entry I found was the purchase of land by Joseph Dungan in 1833 in
Delaware County, IN.
It appears that Joseph may have died in Delaware County, IN, as one source states that
after he died, his wife, "Mrs. Elizabeth Dungan" married Joseph's brother,
Benjamin Dungan whose wife, Margaret, died in Delaware County, IN, on January 22, 1836.
John W. Dungan and Benjamin Dungan joined their brother, Joseph Dungan in Delaware County,
IN, during the winter of 1834-35, and purchased land in Center Township.
John W. Dungan was born in 1771, and died in Delaware County, IN, on March 21, 1834.
Benjamin Dungan was born in 1782, and died on September 15, 1855, in Delaware County, IN.
There are no Dungans listed on the Delaware County Burial Index on their GenWeb site.
Years ago, some one sent me some burial information on Dungan's in the Beech Grove
Cemetery.
But John, Joseph, and Benjamin and their wives are not listed.
So does this mean that they were buried (1) out behind the barn? (2) In an abandoned
cemetery that later became a farmer's field? (3) Buried in a cemetery that was never
indexed by the volunteers in Delaware County?
Do Joseph, Benjamin, and Samuel appear on the 1840 or 1850 census in Delaware County?
I will be looking forward to hearing again from the nice historians on the Delaware
County, IN, List for their good advice.
