-----Somehow I wasn't notified of your response to my earlier post as I had requested.
I would have answered you sooner had I known.

----If you want to briefly describe Evelena Genereaux's native background, the
shortest way is "Michigan Ottawa." or substitute "Odawa" for
"Ottawa" which is the style nowadays. Her father was Levi Genereaux and her
mother was a Wassageshick (I don't have her mother's first name, but the family
name is very well known among Michigan Indians.)
----Evelena Genereau could be assigned to either the Grand River Band of Ottawas &
Chippewas or to the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa, both in Michigan, depending on how
tribal laws are interpreted. The name "Rena" or "Lena"
"Genereaux" appears on the Durant Roll of 1907, as living in Muncie, this entry
has to refer to her. If Evelena is considered full-blood, any of her grandchildren would
be considered 1/4 Indian. Having an ancestor on the Durant roll and being 1/4 Michigan
Ottawa is close to one tribe's minimal requirement for joining, and might be
accomplished just by filing the appropriate birth & marriage certificates which link
the grandchildren back to Evelena.
