My great great grandfather was George Roderick Rawlins. He died shortly after he returned
to Texas after the Civil War, but I can not locate his burial place. He served in Co F ,
6th Texas Calvary. His widow, Sarah Florilla Ham Rawlins, later married John Stoker. His
father was William "Elder Billy" Rawlins, born 1793 Kentucky and Polly Rawlins
born 1802 Kentucky. George was born in 1849 Iowa. The Rawlins families came to the
Republic of Texas in 1844 from Indiana with Rodderick Rawlins as the leader of the group.
The Rawlins families decended from 3 brothers who came to America from England: James
Mason, Charles, and Roderick Rawlings. Charles and Roderick fought as Patriots, but James
Mason supported England because of his position in the church. After the Revolutionary
War Charles, Roderick, and also James's own children changed their name from Rawlings
to Rawlins to disassociate themselves from the man who was branded a traitor. I am
looking for any informatio!
n on George Roderick's burial in Texas as well as any other information or photos of
the family. I am descended through his son, George Edgar Rawlins and Mary Holt, and their
daughter, Lillie Naomi Rawlins Close. jsowens(a)mail.com
