This is an involved question and will take concentration in order to
understand it.
I am searching for the first born child of Archibald Parker and Elizabeth
Patton. By the very early 1830's Archibald was living in Delaware County
(Elizabeth had died by the very early 1820's - probably in Sullivan County)
where he remained until moving to Madison County, Indiana a decade or so
later.
Archibald and Elizabeth, married on 02 May 1816 in County of Franklin,
Indiana, had three known children - John, Mary, and Isaac. Isaac, based on
his Civil War records, was born in either 1819/1820 in Sullivan County. I
have no clues about Mary. My question now revolves around John.
The Indiana State Library Genealogical Division has a John Parker and a
Nancy Garner married 19 December 1839 in Delaware County, Indiana.
The Federal Census, 9th of June 1880, Harrison Township, County of Delaware,
Indiana, has a John and Nancy Parker living there with son William R., age
27. John is a farmer, born in Indiana. His father was born in North
Carolina and his mother was born in Ohio. John would have been born about
1817.
Is the John and Nancy Parker in the above census the John Parker and Nancy
Garner married in 1839?
The John Parker I am looking for would have been born in Indiana. His
father Archibald was born in North Carolina and his mother Elizabeth Patton
was born in Ohio. The above 1880 census, so far, encourages me in the view
that this John could be the son of Archibald Parker and Elizabeth Patton.
John's wife Nancy was listed as age 62 in the 1880 census. She would have
been born about 1818. Nancy was born in Ohio. Her father was born in
Tennessee and her mother was born in North Carolina.
The census data for son William indicated that he was born in Indiana. His
father was born in Indiana and his mother in Ohio. There does not appear to
be any inconsistencies in the census data.
The federal census index for 1840 lists two John Parkers for Delaware
County: one John on page 529 and one John on page 603.
The federal census index for 1850 again lists two John Parkers for Delaware
County: one John in Hamilton Township, page 412, and the other John for
Harrison Township, page 385.
Damon Floyd's cemetery records for Jones Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Township
(not Harrison Township), have the records on a John M. Parker and Nancy
Parker, wife of John M. John died 12 October 1895 at 78 years, 7 months,
and 21 days. Wife Nancy was born 1818 and died 1906. If my mathematics are
right, then John would have been born February 1817. This John would fit
nicely into being the first born child of Archibald and Elizabeth Patton
Parker. It also fits into this being the John Parker in the above 1880
federal census. Wife Nancy, in the cemetery record, was listed as being born
in 1818 which fits into the Nancy Parker in the 1880 census.
Another question is whether the above John and Nancy Parker, in the Jones
Cemetery, are the same John and Nancy in the 1880 federal census?
Is there a way of obtaining the death certificate on the above John Parker
and, at the time he died, would the names of his parents have normally been
listed?
Please feel free to note any inconsistencies in my reasoning. I have
several facts, as above, which could easily be referring to someone else as
there are so many Parkers, especially John Parkers. I have listed the above
question on "GenForum" a few months ago and have not received any response.
