I can't give you exact dates, but I can tell you that they go back to the
middle 1800's I believe, depending on the paper, and what you are looking
for. I have a death notice from an 1877 paper, which is not an obit as we
know one today, but it does say he died, that he died as the result of an
accident at his work, which tells me where he worked, and give me the date
and time. It doesn't mention, for instance who his wife was, and no
children are mentioned. It did give me information I consider invaluable,
however, as stated above, and in that it told me when he lived in Delaware
County. Based on that, I've learned much more from the 1870 everyname
census Shawn Gray did, which is located at Ball State, and other
information that they have there.
