The first available Delaware County Newspaper is 1827, but from then to
1880 it is very sparatic. About 15 newslpapers exist. Maybe a little
more.
Plus not all obits have been indexed. From about 1880-1998, there are
papers from each day and from the 1980's to the present every obit is
indexed. 1880-1980, they have made a great effort in trying to catch
each obit and patrons have added to this priceless resource.
Also be aware that in Delaware County, obits cost money, so only the
wealthy, in the early days, had obits, and later only the wealthy listed
lots of things. Mostly they would say the following Rebecca YINGLING
died at 8:30 pm in bed. Services are at Mt. Pleasant Church. That was in
1893.
The library is called the Carnegie Library and was formally called
Muncie Public Library. It is the main library and is on East Jackson St.
in Muncie. The newspapers are in the basement ad the index is in 3x5
cards. The phone number is 765-747-8204 and is located at 301 E.
Jackson.

I am told the obituary index is in the Muncie Public Library. What is the name of the
library and what time period does the index
cover?
