Dot,
I have a copy of Delaware County from one of the early Indiana Atlas'. I will
be very happy to send you a copy if you will send me your snail-mail address.
It is on 11X17 paper which is too big for my scanner and when I reduce it the
results are less than perfect.
Delaware County did not open for land purchases until 1829 and the early ones
were primarily in the southern part of the county. Your Harris purchased land
in Union township which is in the top center of the county. It is adjacent to
Blackford County, so the area was settled probably nearer 1831 or later. Even
1831 would be considered early for that part of Delaware County.
Section 25 would be in the lower east side of the township. The Mississinewa
River cuts diagonally through that section from SE to NW. The river flows
northwest. The river would be the reason they would have been pioneers in the
area because it was a route that the Indians used traveling from Ohio. The
river originates in Ohio near the eastern state line of Indiana....first into
Randolph County then Delaware County.
Hope this helps. I'll wait for your reply.
