Hello Shawn, I am revising my book on the early Gates families of America,
please see review below, and I am very interested to learn of any persons
with the surname "Gates" who lived in the county before 1870. I would like
to include them in the revised edition, using your name and address as the
source if you would please send this information to me. Thank you very
much for any help you may provide. Bob Gates rgates(a)innet.com
Book review in "Everton's Genealogical Helper":
RECORDS OF THE GATES FAMILIES OF AMERICA FROM THE COLONIAL PERIOD TO 1860.
1997. By Robert Cady Gates, 8337 Pavilion Drive, Hudson, FL 34667. Spiral
binding, 8 1/2 x 11", 256 pages, $22.00 postpaid.
The material in this volume documents births, marriages, locations of
residence and ancestry for Americans with the surname GATES from the 1600's
through the year 1860. All branches of GATES families are covered,
including the numerous descendants of Stephen and George of New England,
as well as the southern lines and those of German origin whose names became
anglicized to GATES. The book contains approximately 40,000 GATES family
records from more than 1,000 sources which are specifically cited for each
of the family records presented. Names and addresses of individual
contributors are keyed to each record so that readers may contact these
personal sources. The extensive bibliography lists all published sources
and manuscript records which may be consulted at the libraries indicated,
and all of the material is alphabetically indexed."
