LeeAnne,
I have one man Sheet's who was a step grandpa to my great
grandmother. Here is all that I know of this Sheets. (Which isn't alot).
My great grandmother was Bernice H. (Howe) Taylor born October 22, 1904
in Delaware County Indiana and died November 19, 1996 in Delaware Co.
Indiana at age 92.
I grew up very closely with my great grandmother. She was only 4 foot
tall. So we called her Little Grandma.
:) anyways Little Grandma's was the 6th of 7 children born to George
Oliver Howe and Lavina (Smith). Lavina left her husband George and their
7 children when my Little Grandma was about 3 yrs old (abt.1907) the
youngest child Genevia was born April 17,1907 and I don't know if
Genevia was a year old when she left or not. (She was a baby though). At
any rate GGreat Grandpa George couldn't care for the 7 children alone so
as Little Grandma said to me he farmed us out to various families.
Little Grandma Bernice went to live with a family by the last name of
Bertram in Gilman Indiana (which is not far from Muncie). The Bertram
family did not have any kids and they wanted to adopte Little Grandma,
but GG Grandpa George would not let any of his kids be adopted so he
went and got Little Grandma and him and her went to Portsmouth Ohio and
stayed with his sister for a little while. (Little Grandma attended
school there a short time). At any rate. Little Grandma Bernice said
she did not see her mother again till she was about 12 yrs old. Lavina
and George Oliver Howe were married in Delaware County Indiana on July
08, 1888. George and Lavina were from Greenup Kentucky. We find Lavina
and her parents and siblings in the 1880 Greenup Kentucky census and
have not found them in any Indiana census as of yet. But they were in
Delaware County (Muncie). After Lavina left George she was married
several times. She only had children with her 1st husband George Howe.
The following is a list of Lavina's husband's
1st husband was George Oliver Howe
2nd husband was Charles Acton
3rd husband was Ed Thornbro
4th husband was HARRY SHEETS (her husband at time of death).
Lavina's name is sometimes spelled Luvina.
Lavina died April 14, 1929 Richmond State Hosp. in Wayne co.Indiana age
at death 58yrs & 27days. On her death certificate it reads LUVINA
SHEETS husband Harry Sheets Cause of death: General Pharaylisis
contributed to Theraputic Malaria it also says that she was in Richmond
State Hosp. for 1yr and 27mos.
STATE HOSPITAL & HER DEATH CERTIFICATE it says at the state hospital she
was admitted 2-29-1929 & dismissed 4-14-1929 her death certificate says
she was a patient at the hospital for 1yr. & 27mos.so I don't know which
is right I don't know how long she was there but mostlikely she was
there probably the 1yr and 27 mos. so Maybe the Hospital's records
should read 2-29-1928?
Lavina was brought back to Muncie after her death and buried beside
her 1st husband George Oliver Howe and their youngest daughter Geneiva
in Beechgrove Cmty. in Mucnie,Indiana.
After finding that Lavina was in the State Hospital. I was totally
confused as to why she would of been there. I spoke with her daughter my
Little Grandma about this and she said she was not crazy but that back
in those times when women started going through the change of life that
is where they put them and that was why she was there.
Little Grandma couldn't tell me much at all about Harry Sheets except
that when her mom died he kept all her belongings and wouldn't give the
kids anything such as her rings ect.... I know nothing further of Harry
Sheets except that he was married to Lavina when she died. I believe
they lived in Muncie.
Well sorry this was so long but this line is kinda sketchy and the info
is all I could get from the last living child of Lavina's before she
died. There is nobody else to ask after my great grandma died in 1996.
Don't know if this will help any with your Sheets but thought I'd see if
you have a Harry Sheets or not.
Sincerely,
Donata Boyle

Is there anyone by chance working on the Sheets family of Henry and
Delaware County, IN? I'm trying to find information on Benjamin Sheets,
Joshua and Lydia Sheets and Elnora Catherine (Katie) Sheets Rodecap.
I'm trying to figure out what the connection between these people is.
I'd be really greatful to anyone who can help. Thanks.
