I have a Samuel WEST and a Frances BALSLEY who were married Jan. 1839 in
Delaware County. They are also listed on the Delaware County Web page (as
well as several other websites listing early IN marriages), with the book
number and page. Should I contact Bracken Library for marriage appl. and
certificate for this info, since it's in the early/mid 1800's? Does anyone
know about how much it will cost?

Hi all;
I'am not sure how long it has been that the marriage records went to
Bracken but they are there. (I think more recent are still in the court
house).
ALSO when you are requesting information at either place court house
or Bracken I personally would advise for you to ASK SPECIFICALLY FOR
THE APPLICATION FOR MARRIAGE also besides a copy of the marriage
licenses. The reason I say that is most people don't relize or forget
they are two different forms. (I did this before) I asked for the
marriage licenses and all it had was their names their marriage data
(stuff I already had and did not have the parents names or birth places
of the bride or groom which was what I was wanting).
Then someone told me to ask for the Marriage APPLICATION. So I did and
sure enough it had all the data I was wanting on it. Now don't count on
that being the case everytime (I have asked for some and there either
wasn't one or it did not have anything further I wanted such as birth
place or parents). I believe Bracken has both Marriage LICENSES and
Marriage APPLICATIONS before 1920. I don't recall the actual dates they
have.
Hope this helps.
