John, Judy, and all,
Hi Judy been awhile since we've spoke last well here what I've
mostlikely already given you before, but thought I'd pass it on in case
the rest of the list would be interested.
Well I have been also researching Shockley. My husband's grandmother
Violet Lillian (Shockley) Boyle passed away a few years ago. But I've
been working on this for almost 7 yrs now.
I have tried to lay my hands on everything about Shockley's in
Delaware County and even the surrounding areas. As best as I can tell
all the Shockley's in the area come from James Shockley and Mary
(Ogle)'s children. My husband decends from their son David Shockley wife
Susan Triplett. David died in the Civil War in Vicksburg Mississippi and
is buried there. His wife remarried after his death to a man by the name
of John Curts. Both Susan and her 2nd husband are buried at Jones Cmty.
in Muncie Indiana. Susan only had children with 1st husband David
Shockley. Susan and David's son David B. Shockley wife Nora Eppard is my
husband's line and David B. Shockley's oldest child of 11 was Earl
Edward Shockley born 1888, Earl is my husband's great grandpa he died
from suffication in a boiler in a factory in Muncie when his daughter my
husband's grandmother Violet was only 2 yrs. old.
A couple of years ago I went to Bracken Library at Ball State College
here in Muncie Indiana and was able to locate James Shockley's will I
have a photo copy of the entire will. In his will (if you've not seen
it) he left Hiram/Hyrum Shockley's son Asberry Shockley things (can't
remember what it was off the top of my head been awhile since I looked
at it). In census 1850 Asberry is living with Mary (Ogle) Shockley his
Grandmother. The only thing I have on Hiram/Hyrum Shockley or his
children is what I've stated above and the following;
Asberry Shockley born 1843 in Delaware Co.Indiana
Hiram/Hyrum Shockley was born about 1818 or 1820 in Carol County
Virginia
Hiram/Hyrum Shockley married November 22, 1838 in Delaware County
Indiana to Abigah (Gibson)
(Don't know who her parents were).
I have down that Hiram/Hyrum and Abigah had 2 kids who were;
1) ?Mary (Shockley) born 1841 in Delaware County Indiana
2) Asberry Shockley mentioned above what I have on him.
I have also that Hiram/Hyrum Shockley was married May 07, 1846 in
Delaware Co.In. to
Rodella (Thomburg/Thornburg) and with Rodella he had 5 children who
were;
1)Jacob Shockley born Abt. 1847
2)William Shockley born Abt. 1848
3)George Shockley born Abt. 1849
4)Ezra Shockley born Abt. 1854
5)Wesley Shockley born Abt. 1856
I have nothing further in the computer on these children.
I have nothing in the computer about Hiram being married to Fanny
McBride but I know that I have seen that
in documents that I have not gotten into the computer as of yet.
As I mentioned above that from what I could tell all Shockley's in the
area here were related. Well I did find some mention of some Shockely's
that were from Ohio that I don't know how they fit in. (Can't recall the
names at this moment) (But have them in my paper notes). I would say
they are related but not sure how at this time but in my computer notes
under James and Mary Ogle Shockley I have the following
"This family came from Carol Co. Va. thru Cinn. Ohio into Indiana they
followed the Conners Trail
(conners prarie) on into Delaware Co. Indiana Madison Twp. in 1835."
Well this would put Hiram/Hryum and his parents and siblings in Ohio at
one point (don't know if they just passed through or lived there) Or
even where in Ohio. But these from Ohio could be related mostlikely.
I have been in contact with Hiram/Hryum's niece Mary Elizabeth Shockley
(daughter of Hiram's brother my husband's ancestor David Shockley &
Susan Triplett) decendants (who are from here in Delaware Co.In.) they
live on Shockley road (off Hwy.3) not to far from the Macedonia
Cemetary.
Judy I don't know when the last time we spoke was but I have some new
news on the Ogle's (MAYBE)-
If this man's info is right then all I need is some paper (anything) to
prove that James Shockley's wife
Mary "Polly" (Ogle) is the daughter of James Ogle and Hannah (Brown). If
I can prove that then I will beable to
take the Ogle line back to I think it's the 1100's (with
Sir/Knights/Castles and all).
Judy can you supply more info on Hiram's children. And Asberry's?
Gladly appreciate it.
I have more data on the other Shockley families.
Anyone searching Shockley or Ogle's contact me please.
Sincerely,
Donata Boyle
