The only John W. Long is a Jonnie Walter Long but born 19 Dec 1911 and died
26 Jan 1913 in Missouri. One of our Long families is from Henry Co Indiana.
Sorry, none in 1846.
Don't think I have a Rufina Smith. I come from Dunham Smith and Mary Rench.
Their children were born in Henry Co., Indiana then they migrated to MO.
BOB, ANY CHANCE THAT YOUR GUMPS CAME FROM BEDFORD COUNTY, PA, OR RICHLAND

Where are their land grants?
Mine lived in Huntsville, Randolph Cnty and Muncie, Delaware Cnty. Bevins, his wife and two sons originally went from Dover, Delaware to KY to build the home of the well known Henry Clay. When is wife died shortly after the birth of their daughter, he went to Ohio then Indiana (1826). During that time he was married other times and had step children and possibly others of his own. Some stepchildren may have taken the Turner name too. Not sure. I think only his daughter and one son (Minus) came to Delaware County with him. The other son (sons?) stayed in the Randolph/Wayne/Darke County area.
Does any of this ring true for you?

I'm wondering if anyone out there is researching this line? I am having a difficult time in taking the line back another generation from John H. to his parents.
John H. King is born 1813 and according to census records in PA. He marries Susan Ann OR Susannah STIFFLER in 1842 Delaware Co. IND They have several children, Susannah dies before 1860 and John H. marries a Mary Parsons, also in Delaware Co. IND
John is buried in Randolph Co. IND (there area they reside is very close over the "line" to Delaware Co) In a cemetery called Swingley/Clevanger near the burg of Windsor. He dies december 05, 1899
I have his marriage records for first and second marriages. his death record and funeral records from the mortuary that handled his burial, his death notice and obituary from the paper in circulation then...NO mention of his parents.
His son's (two of them) John S. and Charles H. in their own obituaries mention their father being from Franklin Co. PA a death notice mentions John H coming from Maryland to Indiana...but census records dont match this.
In Delaware Co. IND there are two possibilities...an ELIAS KING and a JOHNSON KING..both from PA I believe. In looking at deeds and land records for the area, I saw one reference to JOhn H. King being a JR...on the other side? Despite no one ever having John H as part of ELias King's family in their own genealogies between Elias King and Mary Neely? The Mary King that most other researchers refer to as a Neely? is in fact buried within the same cemetery as John H. King and at least one of his sons, Francis King. (Perhaps they've never attributed John H. to the Elias and Mary family is the fact that Mary and Elias' dont get married until December 1813 and John's b-day is October 1813. Perhaps Elias was married before? Lost first wife in childbirth? Wrong family altogether? I'm at the proverbial brick wall. The Muncie library has excellent online document research and I was also able to cross reference many deeds/land transfers to another Delaware co. historical societies list!
of transactions. Elias, Johnson SR and Johnson JR AND John H. King are all doing business. JOhnson SR's wife appears to be an ANN...Johnson JR's wife appears to be a MATILDA..John H.'s wife as I mentioned earlier is Susannah/Ann/Susan. I recently sent away for a copy of John and Susannah's original marriage record...NO mention of parents for John. sigh.
I'm having a difficult time moving this line backwards and would appreciate others input for where to go next.
Thanks for your time and any help! Stacey
