I found an old photo -mid 1870's? - with who I believe is this Jacob Jones, son Henry A. by Mary Ann Neely, and the four daughters of him and Mariah Packer: Mary E., Margaret, Nancy & Leora. Does anyone have any photo's of these folk who I could compare with and positively identify?
Thanks,
Mike Jones

I am searching for the family of two soldiers who was killed in the Korea War. When they entered service they gave Deleware County, Indiana as their home of record. Thier remains were never recovered.
Soldier: R MAURICE METZCAR
Born: July 27, 1912, Caucasian
Date of loss: April 25,m 1951, POW
Soldier; CAHRLES DAVID RILEY
Born; April 12, 1932, Caucasian
Date of loss: November 28, 1950, POW
When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 70 families from Indiana that have not been located. There are two families from Deleware County that has not been located.
When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find these families. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.
I will be grateful for any assistance in locating these families.

I am a Preston researcher and I noticed with interest the James Preston, age 37, born in Ohio, who is listed with Matilda Preston age 17 on the 1850 Delaware County, IN, Census for Center Township.
I have been advised by the Muncie Public Library that her name was "Malinda" Parker, and they sent me a copy of the April 1850 marriage record.
Going back to the 1850 census, at that time, living next door to James and Malinda is Alvira Parker, age 44, born Indiana, Mary Ann age 15, Alira S. age 18, James K. age 4, and George W. age 2.
Are there any Parkers on this list who can confirm if this 44 year old Alvira Parker is Malinda's mother? And if so, what happened to Mr. Parker?
I have been unable to confirm who James Preston's parents were, or if he fit into my Preston family tree.
But in genealogy, they say, "When all else fails, follow a parallel line." So I was hoping some Parker researcher could tell me more about James Preston and why he does not appear on the 1860 census in Delaware County, IN.
More pieces to this puzzle are always appreciated.

Hi Shirley,
It's been a long time since I have communicated with you.
Is the John A Shafer one of those you have connected with the Civil War?
There is a John Shafer connected with the Mt Pleasant (near Yorktown) Howell
family but I don't know his middle initial but would be in that age group.
His stats are as follows.
John Shafer
Born 2 Jun 1842 in Mt Pleasant twp near Yorktown - prominent farmer family in
the area
He died 27 June 1908 same area.
Married Mary Ellen Howell 22 Nov 1873. She was the daughter of Daniel
Parkison Howell and Mary Ann (Mariah) McKinley.
Hope this is one you are looking for.
Have a good week.

If Pruda is a nickname for Prudence, you may find the publication "Bogue and allied families", by Virgil T. Bogue (Printed by Herald Printers, c1944) helpful, as there are several listed in the index. On pg 232, the children of a Delwin and Anna (Jones) Bogue include daughters Prudence b. 1817 and Jemima b. 1818; both b. Silver Creek, Union Co., Ind.; spouses not named. One of Delwin's sons married an Applegate.
I am not related to this family.

Cathey, this sounds like the same Shafer family. I have seen these Shafer's
on census images but have no way to verify for sure if it's the same
Elizabeth although I think it is. I'd love to have anything you can share.
You don't have anything on any Wilsons in Muncie do you?
Thanks- Amy

Their daughter Ida Belle Warfel b.1862 married William A. Wilson b. 1860 (my GG grandparents). Can anyone tell me anything about Elizabeth Shafer and William A. Wilson? Who were their parents and siblings?Thank you for anything-

I have a friend in Ft. Wayne who's gggt uncle was a tent mate to my Grt grandfather. He was very interested in their military lives and the unit so contacted me a couple of years ago to learn more. We've since, myself, my husband and Phil, have become good friends.
Phil has been putting together a tremendous collection of information on all the men he can find. In addition, he's been trying to locate their burials and making sure all have good stones. Phil is a gem. He was here the other day and I asked him for a listing of the guys he hasn't found burials on yet. Phil takes all the information he can find and ends up locating the burials through the tiniest details he can piece together. It's amazing. So, if you know where either man is buried or have anything at all on them to share with Phil, I'll forward you on to him.
BTW, Phil is making this information available to people at our GenFest.

Shirley,
I definitely have George Warrington in my database. His sister, Lydia, was
my gt.gt.grandmother. What do you need to know about George and his family ?
All I know about George's military service is that he enlisted 7-29-1861, E
Co. 19th Inf Reg. IN, and died on 06 October 1861. I do not know how or where
he died. I have a note that he was a band member. George Warrington had a
brother, Benjamin, who was killed in 1862 at Stone River. He was in another
military unit, B Co. 36th Inf Reg. IN. He enlisted 23 Oct 1861. As far as I
can tell, neither was ever married. They were the only two sons of Samuel
Warrington and Abigail Bourne.
I also have a John Shafer who was born about 1830, son of Jacob Shafer and
his wife, Mary. May be the John Shafer on your list.
George Warrington and John Shafer would have known each other as both had
family members who married into the family of William Finley.
All lived in Delaware County at one time or another.
Just tell me what you would like and I will send more information on both
men.
Cathey Jendeski
