Donald A. Scott passed away in Florida. I have a copy of his death certificate. Susan Ashley Hemingray was indeed married at least 3 times. First one in 1904, second one in 1907 and third sometime between 1913 and 1917 (my estimate). For more detailed information, drop me a line.

There's only one in the 1891-92 city directory and it's spelled Carlisle...a Geo. W.
Is it possible your family went to MO (?) and came back to Delaware Co. later or did they stay out there?
Shirley

It is possible, though I have not yet encountered any family members spelling it that way. Going back this far, however, that may've been how they did it.
Thanks so much for taking an interest -

Shirley - Thanks for your quick reply.
I know of a Lewis Wash Carlyle born 10-17-1850 in Delaware County. He is my great-great grandfather. Wash may be short for Washington. Other than that, I really have very little information out of Indiana. Lewis's family moved to SW City, Missouri, where he was later city marshal, a Mason, and an Odd Fellow, but I have not found any references to any Carlyle in the legal profession or in any of the fraternal organizations so far in Indiana.
I found mention of a John K. Carlyle as a member of the 84th Regiment, K Company, during the Civil War, but that is all.
Also, I found warrants for an Arthur Carlyle's arrest, one for keeping a gaming house and one for violating the liquor law, both from late November 1929.
Any leads would be helpful!

Hey gang,
Just a short reminder to the vets and newbies at this site of my free research for the asking here at Andersonville. Of the 41000 Union soldiers on record, 1954 are from Indiana.
Please email me directly at Frye(a)pstel.net with request so we dont tie up the county site.

I am a Preston researcher and I have in front of me a copy of a newspaper clipping that states that Phineas Preston was a "Civil War Veteran".
I do not know if this Phineas is related to my Prestons, but it would be interesting to know.
I believe the person who sent me this copy (some time ago) is deceased as he no longer responds to my emails. Since I can no longer send my questions to him, I am hoping that someone on the list can help me.
There was a Phineas Preston living in Randolph County in 1850. He was living with John & Lodicia (sic) Wood.
John Wood married Lodiss (sic) Preston (sister of Phineas?). Lodiga (sic) Wood, wife of John, is buried beside members of my family tree (at Mt. Tabor), namely John Smith and his wife Harriet Preston.
Today's question, how do I learn if Phineas Preston enlisted in the Civil War from that area of Indiana?
(Additional comments on this puzzle also welcome.)
