Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Because there are so many former Wayne County Kentuckians now living in Delaware Co, IN I thought they might be interested in this.
One hundred years ago Elk Spring Cemetery was farmland
along the Monticello and Burnside Turnpike. The land
belonged to County Judge Charles McConnaghy who in
November of 1904 began to lay off the lots for a new
town cemetery. Judge McConnaghy and his wife Bessie
buried a young daughter, Nell McConnaghy in 1901.
It's likely that the cemetery was platted out around
her grave, but the first grave of record is that of
Thomas Rankin who died in 1905.
"2005" - One hundred years later there are nearly
7,000 graves located in Wayne County's largest
cemetery. Eileen Mullins and I are excited to
announce that we have written and compiled a book
about the cemetery that includes a list of those
buried within it's gates.
Two years in the making, the book includes:
*An alphabetical list of names.
*Dates of birth and death; military, marriage, and
family info inscribed on the headstones.
*Annotations for many of the deceased written by
Eileen and myself. These may include parents names,
spouses and marriage dates.
*A map of the entire cemetery and unique numbering
system that assists in locating your ancestors or
loved ones.
*A brief history of the cemetery with vintage
photographs.
Originally written for our own research, we think this
book will be a wonderful addition to your home
library.

Hello Listers,
Lynne, from the Muncie Public Library, would like to hear from folks who are
UNABLE to access the library documents. She is requesting that you send her
your operating system (eg Windows 98, Windows XP, etc), and if you have
problems getting in, or have problems viewing, and what, if any, messages
you are getting. If you're not certain about what is happening, just be
sure to send her your operating system.
Lynne's email: lking(a)munpl.org
So, please, everyone who is having problems, write to Lynne and give her
your information! She's working the problem!
Cheers,
Virginia

Gina,
Why couldn't they just use a system that older people could use too?

Here is what the library sent me yesterday, perhaps these directions will
help some of you that cannot view the documents.
-------
Please check the following settings in your Internet Explorer. This
is found in Internet Explorer: from the menu click on Tools, Internet
Options, Security Tab, Custom Level ----
Download signed ActiveX controls - prompt
Download unsigned ActiveX controls - disable
Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe - disable
Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins - enable
Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting - enable
Also see if your Security level for Internet Explorer is set to High, my
here is set to Medium.
Also make sure you don't have pop-ups disabled------
I don't have a pop up blocker, and I had already done these to my settings
and it still don't work unless I go in under the publicmac user.
Mary Lou had mentioned when you use the publicmac it don't load the viewer
that the other password downloads.
Lynne said that the company told her that the viewer does not work well with
Windows 98.
IMHO I still think it is something with the viewer and the new databases.
Nothing on my system has changed and I could access them just fine with
Windows 98 before the new databases were added. <G>
They are still working on the issue though, and if I hear more I will let
everyone know.

I'm not sure about the Netscape thing but it seems the library techs would
have it set to operate with all browsers - I hope. Much of what you say
about settings on our own computers may be true but I still believe the
problem lies with the server that controls the viewer. I hate to see people
changing all their settings if not necessary. I'm for waiting until the
library says they have resolved the problem or until they tell us what all
settings precisely we need to change. This will be a wonderful tool and you
are making some great suggestions but I'm for waiting a bit longer. Just my
opinion and I'm sure there are people out there with a lot more knowledge on
this than I.

Ted,
I and several other people have gone through all these steps and more. I'm not sure about the Netscape thing but it seems the library techs would have it set to operate with all browsers - I hope. Much of what you say about settings on our own computers may be true but I still believe the problem lies with the server that controls the viewer. I hate to see people changing all their settings if not necessary. I'm for waiting until the library says they have resolved the problem or until they tell us what all settings precisely we need to change. This will be a wonderful tool and you are making some great suggestions but I'm for waiting a bit longer. Just my opinion and I'm sure there are people out there with a lot more knowledge on this than I.

Ok, All;
I still don't know what the secret is, but I have just spent most of an hour
enjoying the WebXtender site for the court records, Meeks Mortuary and
obituary index.
I did the same things I have done in the past, and when I clicked on the
first name I wanted to see, the window did come up asking me if I wished to
download the whatever. I clicked on yes, and in only a few seconds I was on my
way.
Now, will have to wait and see if I have problems again next time I'm
online -- but I sure do have a stack of great information here I printed out!
Thanks to the parties responsible for putting this great source up there!
