GenFest has several new additions!
My apologies to those of you who will receive this more than once.
PLEASE, I am asking anyone who is even thinking of coming to GenFest to please sign up. It doesn't matter if you live near or far, it helps me to plan things like gift bags, arrangements for the Mixer and food vendor plans.
We have three hotels giving special rates to GenFest attendees and will soon have more:
http://www.munpl.org/genfest/accommodations.htm
New Partners have been added, including some mortuaries, new counties and special events scheduled. Please check out the list so far:
http://www.munpl.org/genfest/genfestpartners.htm
The Genealogy Market Place has added participants! Note the African American Genealogy Group, Yorktown/Mt. Pleasant Historical Alliance, Anderson Public Library's Indiana Room, Andrea Long's Biographies & More and representing Randolph County and, of course, Jay County!
More to come on this one.
Interesting Places to Visit has several new additions to check out too:
http://www.munpl.org/genfest/placestovisit.htm
I am currently finalizing some plans for food vendors. Yum!
Also, plans for our GenFest Mixer on Friday night will soon be posted.
And, last but not least, I will soon have a list of those businesses donating door prizes. The door prizes themselves will be a surprise.
Thanks to all of you who have made wonderful suggestions. I want to thank Lynne King again. She is a super webmaster and our gracious host, Muncie Public Library, is lucky to have her.

I've heard your name but not in connection with cemetery restoration. Maybe we met during one of Mark Davis' training sessions?

How can I find someone who would be able to restore some stones in New
Burlington? They are really getting mistreated by falling trees, etc.
Thanks.

I'm looking into doing some restoration work in the old section this
summer. I have a lot of family in that section with markers in need of
repair. I need to get ahold of the management to get permission to do
the work. I have a number to call but just haven't gotten to it yet.
I can be contacted directly at brad(a)bradmanz.com

Hello Listers,
If you have been searching for Oliver McLaughlin and his sister, Mamie, they
can be found at Orphans' Home pages:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~indelawa/orph-home-misc.html
This info important because they are found "between" census records.
There is also very good information about where to find records for children
who were wards of the Home.
Thanks April!!
Cheers,

Subject: [INDELAWA-L] School Books - Adah DAVIS
Greetings Listers,
I have two school books which appear to have belonged to Adah DAVIS.
One is a spelling book in rather poor conditon with pages missing. Adah
wrote a couple of cute poems on the inside front and back. The book also
has the names of Beatrice and Dorothy BROYLES written on inside cover; they
may have used the books also...hard to tell.
One little poem: "Roses on my sholders. dimpels on my cheeks. I am pappas
darling dont you think I am sweet. can you guess my name it is--Adah Davis."
(Her spelling, not mine! LOL)
The second book is an arithmetic book and doesn't have any writing to
indicate ownership; however, it was with the spelling book.
Adah DAVIS appears to be the only child of Samuel and Lida Davis and lived
near Gaston, and were neighbors of the Broyles family.
If you are related to Adah DAVIS and would like the books, send me an email:

Does anyone have some history on the Saunders Cemetery or the Old Daleville Cemetery?
I was thinking I read somewhere that there was a cemetery in Daleville, but the bodies were disinterred and moved to Saunders. And a building was erected over the old cemetery.
I have a photo of a Fenwick tombstone that states "First burial in this cemetery" it is in Saunders. But I was thinking this Fenwick child was first buried in Daleville then moved.
I am just wondering if she was the first person buried in Daleville or Saunders????

i recently received some bios on HAINES and ANTHONY families (they were related). It seems the families wer quite prominent citizens of Muncie.
Does anyone know anything about the Natioal Hotel , known at one time as Haines House?
Also Anthony block at the northwest corner of Walnut and Jackson Streets?
Are either of these still in existence? I'd love to have pictures.

Here's an interesting site on the Choctaw Academy. This article is the 2002 winner in an annual photo/essay contest.
This information was provided to me by John T. Logan, whom I hope to have available at GenFest. He's not confirmed his attendance yet but his knowledge and material would be a wonderful addition for those doing African American research.
