Quakers and German Baptists (Dunkers, Brethren) are among groups that used
two separate doors in front. Other Brethren groups, such as Amish,
Mennonites, and Moravians may have had the same practice. A German
Baptist church of that period would have no bell tower.

While driving from Ohio to Indiana yesterday, I noticed an small, old brick school house. It was well taken care of but unused, nonetheless. The front of the building has TWO IDENTICAL DOORS and I wonder if anyone knows why that is? I've seen them before but never thought to question it. Made me wonder if it was also used as a church for a sect that required a male and female entrance. Any thoughts?

Virginia,
I recommend you ask about him by subscribing, even temporarily, to the
BRETHREN list. Some of the subscribers have access to references that may
help.

Thanks Sharon,
Yes, I have given that some thought, and will probably do so when I can
exchange better info-meaning getting it more organized as to where I've
already looked etc.

Delaware County Resources.....
http://resources.rootsweb.com/USA/IN/Delaware/
Hi Virginia,
There are the remains of a cellar of a structure directly across of one of
the side entrances to Jones Cemetery. The church (if that was what it was) has
been gone for years and years......we started going there back in the 50's
and 60's.
Yes, Jones Cemetery is about 1 1/2 to 2 miles and maybe not that far from
I-69 and yes it is on McGalliard Road.
Killbuck Creek is located west of that area and runs into Madison County.
There used to be a back road that we could take that went from that area past
Hawk Cemetery and then into Madison County. It would come out on ST 109 at
the edge of Anderson. I haven't been on that road since the late 1940's.
If you find that this is the church you are looking for, I think I can find
someone who might know the history.
Good Luck,
Micki in Central Florida
Sharon,
This caught my eye because my ancestor, Samuel Brown, 1800-1862, an early
settler of Delaware County, was said to have been a prominent minister of
the German Baptist Church. His place/s of residence in Delaware County made
it highly unlikely that he was associated with the German Baptist Church in
Union Twp.
The name Killbuck rings a bell, but I really know nothing for sure. Am
wondering where you saw it.
Cheers,
Virginia
Does anyone know more about this early German Baptist Church, reportedly
somewhere in Delaware County and not in Union Twp?

Subject: Family History
Has your family lived in the area long? How far back might we be able to research our lines in the future using D.N.A. testing. The case of the Cheddar Man gives an exciting possibility.
A stone age burial near the town of Cheddar in south west England provided D.N.A. samples of a young hunter dubbed "Cheddar Man".
D.N.A. testing of living individuals in the area surrounding the burial found that a local school teacher Adrian Targett was related to Cheddar Man through the mitochondrial DNA of his mother line. Targett and Cheddar Man are separated by 9000 years and 300 generations. We certainly hope that the genealogy data bases of the future will be large enough to handle that much data.

Christina Cook, daughter of Gilpin E. Cook, was first married to Andrew N. Ribble, who died in 1865.
Her second marriage was to Parker Moore, on August 8, 1872, in Delaware County, IN.
Christina died on July 17, 1876. Does anyone know where she was born?
Parker Moore's third wife was Mary Cook, sister of Christina. According to the 1800 census, she was born in about 1862. Does anyone know when she died?
