I am trying to find information on David Reed who married Matilda Jane
Gray(Grey?). He was born in 1845 and died in 1910....and had a son named
Jesse...who was my great grandfather. This is all I know about this couple.
I do know that Jesse Reed lived in Muncie most of his adult life..if not all
and was married to Goldie.
Thanks for any help you might be able to give me. If anyone has any
information on this couple I would appreciate your help.
Thank you in advance.

Where would I write for records of the County Asylum in Burlington in
1870? Any ideas? Also, where would I find probate records from
1862-1870? Thanks.

Georgetta and Peggy are sisters.
Mike is Georgetta's son. I am Peggy's daughter.
Mike and I are first cousins.
Mike's kids and my kids are second cousins.
Mike's kids and I are first cousins, once removed.
My kids and Mike are first cousins, once removed.
Got that?
If not, come on over and I'll draw a diagram in the dirt. Wear a jacket - it's still cold on this end of town.

Gina,
I hadn't thought about parking in the First Merchants
parking. I guess I just never paid any attention to
it being across the street. With my luck though
I probably would get towed.

Mary Lu and Virginia,
That was me but I was confused by your description of Iron Men, Iron Will as "Bob Patterson's diary". They were simply quotes from him put into that book.
I've never been out to that cemetery so not familiar with it. Perhaps Virginia knows it. (Help me out here, Virginia.)
Yes, Kelly just USA'd the county page for us. Nice, eh?
Good luck!

Ok, so no one knows me......yet.

Back in January, either you or Virginia, posted on the INDELAW site, "Can anone on this list claim Andrew Ribble of Co. K, 19th Ind. Infantry?"
I responded,"Yes, MaryLu in Minnesota."
You, I, and Virginia carried on a three-way conversation that night for several hours. It was fun.
Virginia was researching Ribble.
So was it you or Virginia who has Bob Patterson's diary? In that diary, Bob told about leaving Andrew Ribble behind to die. But they later found him alive, put him in the hospital and when his chest wound did heal in two months, they sent him home to die. At your suggestion, I even ordered "Iron Men, Iron Will" from the local library to read more about this incident.
Andrew was a blacksmith by trade. So after he returned to Delaware County, he went to work on railroad cars. One day while working on the top of a railroad car, it took off, hit a bridge, and he was killed, leaving a wife and small son.
His given name was Andrew Nathan Lowry and when his mother died in 1847, he was given to Martin and Nancy (Smith) Ribble, to be raised along with three other siblings, as the Ribbles were unable to have children.
Virginia said she had some additional information on Martin Ribble that she would share with me, but I never heard from her again.
Shirley, you are like me. I see a lot of messages and so there is a lot to forget!
One of my Smith's, Lucy, married James Lowry. They had 11 children. Andrew was one of them.
Lucy had a younger sister, Mary Smith, who married Andrew Shafer. Apparently Andrew remarried and left the state, as Bob could not find any information on him. Mary showed up at the Graham Cemetery, so that is why I wanted to get in touch with the couple who bought that property to tell them about Mary.
I see Delaware County has a new site. The Graham Cemetery is shown between Muncie & Selma. Originally I thought it was west of Smithfield. (Is this another one of my memory problems?)
Thank you for your messages.

I need to delete some messages and came across this still being "open".
I never found an answer to my question if Martha and Carl Barber still own the "Graham Cemetery".
What do you suggest I try next? I should try the DCHA to see if they ever opened up another email address after their earlier problems.
Thank you so much for trying to help me find answers to my Smith family questions. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
I did receive a copy of Andrew Lowry-Ribble's records from the National Archives. Now I am in the "long wait" for information on his brother George's National Archives records. I may have told you before, that four of the Lowry brothers (two "adopted" by Ribble after their mother died) were born in a two year period and were not multiple births! Thus I presume that a couple of them lied about their ages so that they could also enlist. (But I never heard from the lady again who said she found Andrew listed in Bob Patterson's Civil War diary.)
It has been an interesting search. Thanks again,

Mary Lu,
I'm going to forward your email to Mary Lou Gentis at the genealogy dept of the Muncie Public Library. She or Pat or Deb might be of some help in this area. If not, I believe Mary Lou now has the current email address of DCHA. Bob is also in the gen library fairly often so she could check with him if she doesn't have it. In short, she has more contacts or one of the gals there might have the information you need at hand. They're all highly qualified there at the MPL gen library.
If none of this works right away, we'll all keep hammering at it until an answer rises to the top.

A couple of months ago, I believe you were in on a conversation about Mary Smith who married Andrew Shafer on January 13, 1842, in Delaware County, IN.
Mary Smith Shafer died on July 4, 1844, and was buried at the Graham Cemetery.
But I could find no further information about this cemetery.
Today I received a copy of a November 22, 1984, page 7 of The Munice Star that told about this cemetery.
And a copy of page one, December 3, 1984, Muncie Press story about the current owners of the site.
It appears that the county commissioners found out that they owned some land that they were not collecting taxes on! So they decided to auction it off with other tax forfieted land! When it was pointed out to them that it was a cemetery, assigned to their protection, they insisted that was not true!
Martha and Carl Barber bought the property and discovered in the ruins, remnants of old tombstones!
They began doing some research on the property and learned that among the burials there was "David Hamer, Co. E 20th Regiment, Indiana Infantry" and "Mary Shafer where died in 1844 at the age of 27". (This was good, as I now know that Mary Smith was born in 1817!)
Now I know from experience that it is possible to go to the tax department at a Minnesota Courthouse and learn the current owner of a parcel of land. And this I would like to do to see if the Barber's are still attempting to protect this property 19 years later.
Can you tell me if Delaware County Auditor would answer a letter if I wrote to him/her? Or is it best to go through the DCH Alliance?
MaryLu in Minnesota
P.S. Is there a working email address to contact Bob Miller at the DCHA? (I know their old email address was not working several months ago.) MM
I just got a phone call from Merchants. They're looking for you, Gina.

Belinda,
It is hard to find parking on the street, I park in the First Merchants Bank
parking lot across the street, and just hope they won't tow me, lol. I don't
think they really care as long as you don't take a reserved spot. I am not
sure where everyone else parks. Where do you park at Shirley????? is it a
legal spot???
I worked for Merchants for several years so they better not tow me lol.!!!

Belinda,
There is parking along the street to the west of the buildings. You could also park in the church parking lot to the back of the building and the bank across the street has been allowing some parking. We've not had a problem with parking yet.

Hi Shirley or Gina,
I have been trying to acces the website for the Court Records which are
online at the Muncie Library. I have gone in thru Internet Explorer, and
thru every other door. I can get all the way to identifying something I want
to see, but can't access it.
The witnesses names are :
HINTY, Jake
HINTY, Charles
HINTY, William These 3 were witness to a murder. I would really like to
read it. Can someone else find it and send it to me? Thanks so much....Am I
doing something wrong or is my browser not supporting this? I have followed
all the instructions.

And this one is still "open" too. But I am not going to keep it as they
already advised me to contact Bob Miller instead of them as he does the
research.

you send me a e-mail to nioio(a)gate.net I will try to put you in touch with

Is anyone working on the Fenwick Family from Salem Township? Anyone have any photo's of William or his son Carey? Or grandchildren??? I am wanting to compare family resemblances with some photos I have of William's decendants.

The Reverend Peter SCHUYLER, born 1-30-1802, New Jersey, died 8-23-1875,
Madison County, In. Married Catherine "Treenie" PHILHOWER, Apr 1819, at
Hamilton Co., Oh. Later Migrated to Madison County, In.
Can anyone give me his church affiliation, or faith ? And if so, is the
church still in existence? The SCHUYLER family in Hunterdon Co., NJ, were
Presbyterian, I believe.
