Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Kelly,
My thoughts were not only for people to get together in a chat and perhaps
running across others that are researching the same line or maybe part of
the same line. But for us new ones to learn from those of you who have done
research for a long time. I am sure if I sit back and listen to those who
have researched their lines, I would hear a lot of really good tips at doing
my own research. It seems that all have their short cuts and being able to
sit back and listen to these people talk would do me a world of good. Also,
if people are researching their lines, I would think that Delaware Co. would
be the place they would gather if this is where their family line is. More
than likey people will meet up searching the same line. ..Jeff

I am not a Chat Room person either. I make and sell Teddy bears, so went to
a chat room for Teddy bears to see what others were doing. Whew! I didn't
tarry long.
Sometimes the people got "more than a little Nutty", talked about personal
stuff instead of about Teddy bear making, (saved on the phone bill I guess),
and sometimes the language got pretty tacky. None of this seemed to faze
the so called moderator.
Having said all that, I DO have an interest in a chat room for Delaware
County. Jeff has a good idea; a chat room just might be a real asset for
Delaware County, Indiana researchers! I'd like to give it a try. It might
just work like a charm...and we can all use a charm. LOL
Just my opinion,

I have a Gen Web "Dream" I would like to share. I have often times wished
that when you went to county Gen Webs, that they had a chat room for that
site. It would be so nice to go into a chat room there and maybe run across
a person doing some of the same lines you are researching. You could private
message this person and work on your lines together and even strike up a
freindship maybe? That way you also wouldnt be filling up your email box as
much. I dont know about everyone, but I have three main gen web mailings
list I have, often times I have over 200 emails per day to look through and
I enjoy this, but a chat room would cut down on this and a person would be
able to ask if anyone is researching a surname in that county and hook up
with the person who is researching that name right away. This is just a
dream for the future, but a dream I hope that someday can be reached.

Cindy,
Let me find the man's email address that helped me with the Hobson
family. He's written a book a he's very knowledgeable about the Hobson
family. I'll get back to you once I find it.
He may beable to help you and also tell us if yours is connected to my
husband's line. (I do know that one of the earlier Hobson brothers stayed in
Virginia and I have been in contact with another man from his line.) I
haven't worked on this line in a while so let me do some checking.

Donata,
I'm sorry. I'm afraid I won't be able to help much. This is one of
my husband's unresearched lines. From information gathered back in
the 1930's & 1940's by a distant relative of my husband's who lived
in Athens, Ohio, I know the names of the ggrandparents' generation of
this man & his related families.
The information I have beyond the names I listed is speculative and
completely undocumented at this time. I suspect Hannah Hobson is
related to a family of Hobsons that lived at various times in
Virginia, North Carolina, & Ohio. I am hoping I will run into
someone who has already researched some of these families and will
give me a heads up on where to look for these people.
For example, I have a picture of Amelia Bloom and some female
relatives. I know her father's name was Aaron. Aaron apparently
dropped onto the face of the earth long enough to father a daughter
then disappeared again without a trace.
Even more puzzling are the Buchannans. My husband's ggrandmother's
name was India/Indiana Buchanan/Buchannan. I have her death
certificate. Her father's name was David V.Buchanan/Buchannan, her
mother's name was Susan/Susana/Susannah Lemon/Lennon. David & Susana
were married in 1852 in Miami County, Ohio & Indiana was born in
Delaware County in June 25, 1864. That's all I know about Indiana's
parents.
Cindy
I have a copy of a brief descendancy sent to me by a friend also
researching Millers and Sherrys in Delaware Co. It was reportely written
by an older woman who descended from Beezleys, Sherrys, Millers, and Sniders.
There is a mention of a James Miller, which gets our interest.
There may be inaccuracies on this record, written from memory. It shows
the family of Issac BEEZLEY and Susann NICE to be children Rachel, Sarah,
Cornelius, John, David, Tomas (died, left wife and one child named Rachel),
Elizabeth.
Cornelius BEEZLEY reportedly married Elizabeth NIX, whose mother was a
TOWNLEY. She may have lived to 104, the number listed under her name.
Cornelius and Elizabeth may have had
Minerva (who may have married a Thomas);
Martha who m. James MILLER, perhaps had a
GARRETT as a (1) husband;
Mary
Rebaca Jan (Rebecca Jane?)
Rena
Ann
Rachel ({married} an Garrett?
Other incomplete lines appear to be John BEEZLEY married Jane (?). This
may be the John listed above, son is Issac and Susann.
Also Doris B, listed only as related to Martha TUCSON.
Any clarification appreciated. We are particularly interested in who the
James Miller might be who may have been married to a Martha Beezley.

Kelly sorry that wasn't subpost to go to the list ooopsy! And I have no idea
why it went to the list 3 times. Anyway it might be of interest to all on
the list who have AOL. Here is what this email should of been with. Sorry it
went to the list.....Donata
Hello Friends and Family;
I wanted to forward this hoax on to you all just so nobody gets caught up
in it. Every so often I get these. But know when AOL says they don't send
this stuff by email or IM they mean it they don't. I have sent this onto
TOSEmail1 which is where you should send things like this. One other dead
give away to me this was a hoax was for one thing I don't use Credit card to
pay for my AOL. daaaaa on their part. 2nd check out the spelling in the email
there is so many misspelled words it's not funny. This is really a hoax. Plus
the hyperlink for AOL BILLING IN THIS EMAIL will send you to a site that
honestly looks like an AOL site it looks real and if someone did not know
better they might do as the email instructed. But that is a hoax
site......Anyway, I'm sure most of you know these kinds of emails are hoaxes
but thought I would pass it on in case someone did not! Have a great day!
Donata
P.s. If you get any like this you should open the email and hit forward and
send it to TOSEmail1(a)aol.com
If your not sure an email should be sent to TOSEmail1 then go to AOL TECH
support (live 24hrs.) and ask them they will instruct you what to do.

IT COULDN'T HAPPEN BUT IT DID IN 1816 THE KILLER YEAR
When we think of survival, usually our thoughts go to facing a
terrorist attack with a loaded gun or bomb, or perhaps tangling with
a big truck on the interstate, or facing some other life threatening
moment where there is little hope of escape.
Old man weather seldom figures in our survival picture. Even in
weather extremes, man would survive, wouldn't he? Usually, but
wait a moment.
The summer of 1816 was nonexistent. It was a killer year over much
of the US. This is not legend but statistical facts. Sunshine Magazine
much quoted international journal gave this account of the phenomenon:
"January was so mild that people allowed their fires to go out. February
was also mild, and so was March. April came in warm, but as the days
lengthened, the air became colder, and by May 1, temperatures were
like those of the winter. Young birds were frozen stiff in their nests,
and ice formed on the ponds and the rivers of the Midwest. Corn was
killed and fields were planted again, with no germination. By the end
of May all vegetation had been killed by the cold. June was the coldest
month ever experienced in this latitude. All of the fruit was destroyed,
snow lay ten inches thick in Vermont on July 4, 1816, and all of New
England was ice covered. August proved to be the worst month of all.
There was great starvation among the people."
That summation of the year of 1816 seems incredible, but there
are other statistical facts.
R A. Weinel, a Missouri historian, states facts that a repetition of
the above and he makes an addition:
"In Virginia, Thomas Jefferson applied for an emergency loan to tide
him over his crop failures. Europe, too, was hard hit by the unseasonable
cold and in 1816 was also known in England as the year without a
summer. Henry & Elizabeth Stommel argue in Volcano Weather, their
book about the phenomenon, that a typhus epidemic had killed 65,000
people in the British Isles in 1816 was related to this cold-induced
famine."
The cause of this global misery, scientists now believe, was the
eruption of Mount Tambora, a Volcano in the Dutch Indies, In what
was probably one of the most powerful volcanic outbursts in ten
thousand years, Tambora spewed 25 cubic miles of debris into the
Upper Atmosphere. The heavier particles fell in the Pacific Ocean,
forming a slush of pumice two feet thick. The lighter debris remained
aloft for months and blanketed the shies over much of the Northern
Hemisphere. How accurate are these records? Today's meteorologists
think they are quite factual, for many writers reported on the same
subject, and most of them describe the summer of 1816 almost word
for word.
This is a moral to all and a reminder that we survive most of us, not
through human strength alone.
